Welcome to the first edition of The Saturday Style Report, our weekly look at what is genuinely new in menswear. The rule is simple: classic brands, real staying power, nothing that expires by December. This week, John Galliano returned to the high street, suede won the outerwear moment, and October finally started dressing like October.

High Street

The week’s biggest story is also its most improbable: Re{form} x John Galliano Vol. 1, which launched at Zara on October 1. This is Galliano’s first major project since Margiela, 35 looks across womenswear and menswear, and the menswear inside is genuinely wearable. We are talking pure-cashmere V-neck sweaters, knitted waistcoats, T-shirts with his hand on them, and reconstructed tailoring. When the high street borrows from the top, it usually arrives watered down. This one does not. Prices run from $29.99 to $999.99, and the knits are where our money would go.

Zara Suede Pocket Jacket (C$429). Real suede at a high-street price. Suede outerwear is the strongest current trend with real staying power, and this is the cleanest entry point we have seen: pockets, structure, no costume.

Banana Republic 100% Extra Fine Italian Merino Crew-Neck Sweater ($79.50). Our pick for the foundation layer. Genuine extra-fine Italian merino under eighty dollars is the kind of value that lets everything else in the outfit sit properly.

Mango Man Slim-Fit Wool Blend Blazer (GBP 149.99). Wool-blend tailoring at high-street money. With offices settling into the relaxed-but-put-together rhythm, this is the season’s tailoring anchor.

Mango Man Water-Repellent Belted Trench Coat (GBP 139.99). The week’s best outerwear value on the high street. A belted trench that actually repels water, at a price that feels like a misprint.

H&M Premium Selection Regular-Fit Wool Cardigan with Zipper ($79.99). Real wool, from the Premium line. The zip cardigan is this fall’s layering default, and at this price it earns the spot on merit.

Uniqlo : C Merino Blend Crew Neck Sweater (CA$59.90). From Clare Waight Keller’s UNIQLO : C fall/winter collection. Merino from a designer-led line at Uniqlo money. This is the season’s easiest knitwear buy, full stop.

Nike Air Max Goadome Low “Croc Skin” in Midnight Navy ($175). Released October 2. A croc-embossed leather boot with genuine 2000s New York cold-weather heritage. Quality leather, zero hype, all utility. This is what a sneaker brand does right when it stops chasing the algorithm.

adidas Originals Gazelle OG in Charcoal Gray (about $98). Releasing October 9, announced this week. Deep charcoal-grey suede on the archival Gazelle last. The timeless retro sneaker, done right, in a colorway that goes with everything you own.

The Premium Edit

Premium picks that cost more than the high street but keep the same classic discipline.

Peter Millar Essex Water Resistant Quilted Vest ($245). An N125 anniversary exclusive, which makes it genuinely new rather than restocked. The quilted vest is the bridge-tier fall layering staple, and the exclusive colorway is the detail that matters.

Peter Millar Crown Heritage Cashmere Crewneck Sweater ($358). Crown Heritage is Peter Millar’s top-tier line, and a cashmere crew is the purest luxury basic there is. Our pick if you buy one thing from this section.

High Fashion

The classic houses do not do weekly drops, so this section works differently: we track what is genuinely new in their world.

Saint Laurent. The freshest story of the week is the Fall 2026 campaign starring Austin Butler, shot around sharp 80s-leaning power suiting, leather pieces, and knits. The collection itself draws on Giovanni’s Room. The campaign pieces, shearling coats, smoking jackets, high boots, are arriving in boutiques now. This is how a big house dresses October.

Brunello Cucinelli. The Fall/Winter 2026 collection is in boutiques, and the piece we would single out is the wool turtleneck sweater in navy, 90% fleece wool with 10% cashmere. No price games here. It is simply one of the best turtlenecks money buys.

Ralph Lauren Purple Label. The Fall 2026 collection hub is live now: double-faced camel cashmere, grey flannel, a cream shearling utility parka, charcoal suiting. The Bedford calf-suede duffel is the accessory story, a travel piece built like it plans to outlive you.

The One Buy

The Mango Man water-repellent belted trench coat, GBP 139.99. The trench is the season’s outerwear anchor, and Mango put a water-repellent one out at a price that would have been a sale price for the same coat five years ago. This is not a fashion purchase. It is an infrastructure purchase. Buy it once, wear it for a decade.

See you next Saturday.
